We are delighted to welcome Scott Gellatly (USA) as our Featured Artist and Judge for the 2nd Capital Plein Air Festival. Based in Portland, Oregon, Scott draws from his training in painting and drawing at the University of Oregon and a deep love of nature to create richly layered, colour‑driven landscapes that straddle representation and abstraction. His work evolves from plein‑air sketches of wetlands and rivers to vibrant studio paintings in which light, gesture, and chromatic interaction take centre stage. We are honoured to have him joining us for CaPA 2026 and look forward to seeing his interpretation of our unique Australian landscape. Head to the workshops page for details on his festival workshops.
For a week in April Artists will travel to the nations capital to paint the autumn colour, learn from Australia’s best artists, connect and test their skills against their peers for prizes and sell artwork to the public.
As the week rolls into the weekend the festival will localise to central Canberra locations with public spectators, entertainment, awards and the 2 hour quick draw competition.
